Shoemart, now known all over the world as SM, started as a shoe store as my grandfather told all of us(when he was still alive) and he would tell me all kinds of stories about how it grew. Like a debutante, the small business is now a big and developed business boasting the complete line of products, services and amenities available.
Back then, there were very few malls around and this is one of the first because Mr. Henry Sy got this idea from the US and he thought that it can be applied here in the Philippines. Rather than be scared to put up a risky business because of the 1985 crisis, he still pushed through like any Chinese would do and see a silver lining of opportunity.
I’ve been to far out SM branches even when I live here in Manila. I’ve been to SM Xiamen, Baguio and Naga just to name a few. Now, the mall they called SM North Edsa evolved to a humongous mall, being the third largest in the whole wide world!
The newest addition to SM North Edsa is the Sky Garden. It’s a hanging garden rich with lush greens, relaxing sight of water and 55 different kinds of specie of grass and flowers! It reminds me of the hanging garden in Babylon.
Eco-friendly are they! Their trash bins are color-coded so they could recycle easily. This is a practice we should adapt at home! They also are pushing their eco bags to reduce the use of plastics when we shop till we drop!
Ahh! The Sky Dome – this is one of the newest events/concert/ gathering place here in Metro Manila which can fit 1,000 people! The stage is also movable, giving organizers a free room to move and change the appearance of the stage! What an incredible idea!
If you want to relax and bond with your family and friends, why not go there and take a walk? You would forget that you are in a mall here in Manila!
